A monologue is a long speech delivered by one person, either to express their thoughts aloud, to themselves, or to other characters in a play or film. The term comes from the Greek words for "alone" and "speech" and is the opposite of a Dialogue. Monologues serve a purpose in storytelling, such as revealing a character's backstory, motivations, or feelings.
